QUALITY RESOURCE NURSE-POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Resource Nurse plays a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and maintaining compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. This position is responsible for supporting employee and occupational health initiatives, conducting medical record reviews to ensure accuracy and adherence to best practices, assisting with clinical informatics to enhance documentation and data management, and helping manage medical supplies to support efficient clinical operations. The Quality Resource Nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
QUALITY RESOURCE NURSE- ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists with employee and occupational health by administering immunizations, conducting annual tuberculosis screenings and testing, and titers.
- Functions as an advanced clinical administrator of the electronic medical record system and provides training to new staff on the system and assists with troubleshooting issues.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of compliance standards, educating clinical staff to ensure that clinical documentation aligns with all regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Performs medical record chart reviews and focused compliance reviews; provides written feedback to staff for all chart deficiencies that require correction or completion.
- Provides appropriate clinical leadership with status and trends of medical records reviews to highlight high-risk areas and trends in non-compliance that indicate the potential need for education and/or performance improvement.
- When requested, assists with managing the Hospice Item Set (HIS) to ensure dataset and entries are complete prior to submission; provides education to staff regarding HIS compliance, requirements, and how to accurately capture and record in the electronic health record.
- Assists the Compliance, Quality, and Education Department in other duties as requested such as ordering and stocking supplies, assisting with patient/caregiver survey calls, receiving service failures, recording incidents, etc.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication in staff correspondence, chart documentation, and all other professional interactions both within the organization and with community partners/vendors.
- Attends interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings, assists with staff education and employee orientation as requested.
- Performs direct patient care as necessary and as assigned (LPNs will do so under the direction of an RN).
- Practices universal precautions in all contacts with patients/staff and special isolation techniques as warranted by patient diagnosis.
- Manages time to encompass full scope of role with little to no overtime.
- Possesses interpersonal skills that promote interdisciplinary collaboration and communication.
- Participates in personal and professional growth and development and maintains professional boundaries.
- Respects and upholds the right to confidentiality of all staff and patients.
- Participates in departmental and/or organizational wide quality assessment and improvement activities.
- Act independently and responsibly to perform job duties on a consistent basis.
- Contributes to achieving Blue Ridge Hospice’s mission, vision, and philosophy of care.
- Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state or organizational requirements and is in good working order. Must be willing to drive the entire service area.

QUALITY RESOURCE NURSE- ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Current and unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Virginia.
- Certification in Hospice and Palliative Licensed Nursing (CHPLN) preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience in hospice or palliative care.
- Deep understanding of hospice care principles, including pain and symptom management, end-of-life care, and emotional support for patients and families.
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations governing hospice care.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex clinical information clearly and effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and establish rapport with patients, families, and staff.
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care and education.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Detail-oriented with excellent time management skills.
- Proficient in the use of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Comfortable using various educational technologies and platforms for creating and delivering training materials.
- Ability to adapt to changes in regulations, healthcare practices, and organizational needs.
- High ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Adherence to the principles and standards of professional nursing practice.
